About Ithuta

Ithuta is a joint venture formed by Bob Andrew and Len Pretorius aimed at offering practical short courses and coaching on a range of topics, including:

  • Project Management
  • Project Risk Management
  • Construction Project Management
  • Engineering and Value Management.
  • Corrosion
The rationale of Ithuta’s programmes is that a person’s capability in their chosen field can be greatly enhanced by being exposed  to a blend of relevant knowledge and to the experience of others who have for many years been involved in project work. Ithuta aims to provide this balance in all their
training courses and coaching workshops.

Project management is something of an acquired skill, as engineers of all disciplines and people generally from all fields of activity tend to become project managers by their involvement in projects rather than by formal education.

While one can be taught the formal processes and procedures of project management, the real learning required to become competent project managers is by their own experience gained in real-life projects.

Being of a very practical nature, and based heavily on the experience of the presenters, Ithuta learning programmes try to fast-track this learning
process.

Compared to conventional management, project management, with
unique conditions such as a fixed duration, a fixed budget, a specified
level of performance and quality and an environment of uncertainty and unpredictability, usually requires a different suite of technical and
management skills, particularly people management skills.

Although difficult to quantify, it is often stated that the competency of
project managers is based on their fundamental knowledge of the project management process, the experience they gain from actual project work
and, as a dominant factor, their capability to motivate and manage the
project team in often highly stressful and demanding conditions.

Knowledge and experience alone does not guarantee the success of a project manager.
