His engineering training was undertaken at De Beers (Consolidated Diamond Mines) and after this Len developed his engineering skills and, especially, expertise in project management within the Anglo American Group, serving in various senior positions at Anglo Coal, JCI, Amplats and Anglo Platinum.

He also was employed by O’Connell Manthe’ and Partners, a SAACE registered firm of multi-discipline Consulting Engineers. Between 1984 and 2004, Len finely honed his project management skills at JCI, Amplats and Anglo Platinum, where he was responsible for a large number of high value and complex mining and metallurgical capital expansion and refurbishment projects.

A highlight of his career was his appointment as the Chairman of the Technical Consulting Mechanical and Electrical Committee of the South African Chamber of Mines and the Mining Apprentice Training Board for a number of years.

On retiring in 2004, Len has continued with his interests and is currently very active in project management related training, coaching and mentoring and ERP/CRM system development and implementation.

He is also currently a practicing Project Manager responsible for the implementation of the R830million Pilanesberg Water Scheme which plans to deliver 70Ml/day of potable water to the Pilanesberg region in the North West Province, scheduled for completion in 2011.
